For UNTOLD DPM – Season 1, Episode 22, our film crew was allowed to accompany one of the few casting calls of its kind in Europe. Organized by one of the largest German portals, it not only serves to find new performers, but also offers some participants the opportunity to take their first step into a completely unfamiliar professional field.
The documentary follows the day from a consistent fly-on-the-wall perspective . Without interviews, voice-over narration, or intervention, the camera observes how differently people cope with an extraordinary situation. What does it feel like when a few minutes can suddenly become a potential career opportunity? How do people deal with tension, uncertainty, and the pressure of performing in front of strangers? And what happens when a day of production simultaneously turns into a casting call?
Right from the start, the casting director openly discusses how male applicants, in particular, often get cold feet just before their audition. But what does this moment actually look like? And how does the atmosphere change when a first impression could suddenly become reality?
Amidst the daily grind of organization, time pressure, and personal decisions, the camera observes situations that cannot be planned. Instead of providing answers, the documentary allows the viewer to observe and interpret them for themselves.
UNTOLD DPM is an independent documentary series that has been produced over more than ten years. With its unique approach, it tells authentic people stories and accompanies individuals in moments that would normally remain hidden from outsiders.
