“Portrait of a Porn Producer” captures Wolf Wagner during a period in which an industry outsider became a recognizable figure within the German porn industry. The cameras of UNTOLD DPM were not there simply for a single interview or a brief glimpse behind the scenes. The documentary followed Wagner through a significant part of his career – from its beginnings to almost its end.
From journalist to porn producer
Before Wolf Wagner began organizing productions himself, his career took him through journalism, reality TV and management. Among others, he managed the reality TV personality known as the “Currywurstmann.”
Then came another change of direction.
Wagner became a producer – and, at the same time, a figure who increasingly attracted the attention of the German tabloid press. His productions, his protagonists and Wagner himself provided stories from a world that is widely discussed, but whose everyday working reality is rarely documented.
A career observed up close
UNTOLD DPM does not tell this story retrospectively from a safe distance.
As a fly-on-the-wall documentary series, UNTOLD DPM follows people from the industry as they work, capturing situations that usually take place outside public view.
With Wolf Wagner, the result became more than the portrait of a producer. Over the years, the cameras documented the arc of a career: his entry into a new industry, his growing public profile and, ultimately, a period in which that career was already approaching its end.
